Can you claim your Vacuum Erection Device through your private health insurance?

How to make a claim for a Vacuum Erection Device through your Private Health Fund:

  1. Customers interested in claiming a Vacurect or other VED from their health funds should contact their respective funds prior to making a purchase in order to ascertain the level of subsidy.

  2. The Vacuum Device you purchase must be medical grade. The Vacurect, which we recommend and supply, is medical grade: click to read the TGA certificate.

  3. You will need an official receipt that states you have paid for the Vacuum Device.

  4. Most health funds also require a letter from your Urologist or GP stating that you require a vacuum erection device for chronic erectile dysfunction following your treatment. Ask for this next time you have a check-up with your Urologist or GP.

PLEASE NOTE: There are many health funds out there with different policies and extras. We cannot guarantee that you will receive a rebate, or how much you will get back. Please check with your individual health fund before making a purchase to see whether you are covered, and what they require to make the claim.

Does Medicare cover Vacuum Erection Devices?

This article is written for people who live in Australia. At this point in time, the Australian Medicare system does not offer any rebates for Vacuum Devices. This may be different in other countries.

Does the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) cover Vacuum Erection Devices?

In many cases, yes.

You will need a referral letter from your Urologist with a quote from Vacumed (our trusted Australian affiliate supplier) when you apply for assistance from the DVA.

Once approved, the DVA will send you and Vacumed the approval confirmation and Vacumed then claim from the DVA directly for payment. Your Vacurect will be sent to you upon approval. The DVA normally pays the full amount claimed.

For Vacumed to provide the quote, you will need to email them with your full name, DVA file number, telephone contact, and email address.

Please note: A Touchy Subject is not the provider or supplier of Vacuum Erection Devices. We provide education and links to trusted affiliate suppliers in various countries. If you are looking to purchase the Vacurect in Australia, please contact Chris at Vacumed if you need to check for extra certificates/approvals. For information about Vacurect claims under health insurance in USA, please contact our trusted American affiliate, Mainspring Medical.
