Masturbation Devices for Men with Erectile Dysfunction: Pulse Solo vs. Cobra Libre Reviews

This review was written by a member of the Touchy Subject community. He is 14 months post Prostatectomy. Please be aware this is one man’s opinion, your experience may be different.

The objective of this review is to assist men who are experiencing erectile dysfunction. The reviewer’s aim is to find devices that induces an erection, or orgasm, or both (whether rehabilitating solo, or with a partner).

First, what’s the difference between penis pumps and male masturbators?

Penis pumps simply draw blood into the penis to manually create an erection. Most are not designed to offer any sensations for pleasure, whereas a male masturbator is designed to induce pleasurable/arousing sensations to aid with masturbation. So the two could be used together, the pump first to create an erection, then the masturbator for stimulation.

Cobra Libre II by Fun Factory

The Cobra Libre by Fun Factory is touted as a ‘penis head stimulator.’

If I’d used this toy before my surgery, I would have loved it. It provides an incredible feeling of my glans and frenulum being surrounded by vibrating bliss. With a firm and erect penis I would be able to fill the Cobra’s opening and penetrate deep into the toy to reach the vibrating sweet spot.

Unfortunately, I am no longer that man.

I am still in search of my “New Normal” with a penis that needs more than simple vibrations to arouse an erection, keep me erect, and generate an orgasm.

Fun Factory’s website promotes this as suitable for a flaccid penis… but I disagree.

Trying to insert my soft penis into the full length of the device, and over the vibrating pad, is near impossible. Imagine attempting to place a glove on a hand of someone who is asleep!

For me, the vibrations on the glans did feel fantastic, but my floppy friend did not rise to full erection status to achieve the best outcome. Other men may respond differently to the vibrations than myself. But for me, this device only led to vibration numbness.

Another issue is that my masturbation rehabilitation practice involves stroking my shaft and engaging in Jelqing, which this toy hinders.

A Touchy Subject note: watch this short video explaining ‘jelqing’ here.

The biggest drawback: Climacturia

I experience slight Climacturia (urine leakage upon arousal/orgasm). The Cobra has not been designed for this issue and this is the biggest drawback.

NOTE: watch a masterclass on Climacturia here.

This toy is made from silicone and designed as a penetrating device; therefore water-based lubricant is recommended.

Initial insertion with a half hard-on provides sensational vibrations. But before I reach my "new normal" orgasm, I experience uncontrollable releases of urine. This release of urine dissolves the lubricant, which at first makes the sensation more slippery, but then…

This extra slipperiness seals the Cobra’s opening tube causing my glans to be suctioned into the device, while at the same time drying out the lubricant. So at this point, there is unlubricated silicone vibrating against my aroused and sensitive glans. Ouch. This is very irritating and uncomfortable. It is at this point I curse my prostate cancer surgery and give up.

The Verdict

Even though it is a well-designed device and possibly provides amazing stimulation to a pre-prostatectomy or a fully responding penis, it did not work for me.

To spare you the frustration of being reminded of what you used to have vs. what you now have, I would not recommend this device if you have Erectile Dysfunction or Climacturia.

Pulse Solo Essential by Hot Octopuss

Hurrah! This little gem is ideal for stimulating a flaccid, non-complying penis!

Unlike other toys (such as the Cobra) that require insertion into the opening, the soft wings of the Pulse Solo ‘open up’ to wrap my penis in a world of vibrations.

Reasons I enjoy the Pulse Solo:

  • I can easily place rather than insert my soft lubricated penis onto the vibrating pad. This pad is designed for maximum pleasure against the frenulum.

  • The toy’s many settings deliver every form of vibration from a mild tingle to an earth-shattering shake.

  • The enveloping vibrations stimulate blood flow and engorgement for me.

  • I can grasp the rubberised wings of the toy to apply hand-gripped pressure to my shaft and glans.

  • The Pulse Solo permits Jelqing (which in my case, assists with creating an erections).

  • The open design of the Pulse Solo allows urine to drip away, therefore circumventing the Climacturia issue experienced with the Cobra.

  • The Pulse Solo is like most modern, well-designed devices. Fully rechargeable, easy to wash, waterproof, and made of medical-grade silicone.

It can also be used elsewhere…

During my post-surgery rehabilitation, I’ve been experimenting with other parts of my groin to see whether I can generate toe-curling pleasure elsewhere.

I’ve found that if I apply deep firm vibrations to the base of my penis, hard up against the pelvic bone, those vibrations penetrate into my pelvic floor muscles and internal sensory receivers.

Because of these vibrations, I can achieve a completely different orgasm to the one achieved by my puberty-learnt hand job!

So once my penis has achieved semi or fully-erect status, I use the vibrating pressure pad of the Pulse Solo to massage the entire underside of my penis.

This is an extremely pleasurable feeling and no other toy I have researched or tried has the same outcome.

Partner Play for Couples

It was easy to bring the Pulse Solo into partner play, another huge benefit.

Your partner could use the Pulse to upgrade manual, or even oral stimulation. When the toy is placed around the base of the penis, the glans are visible for oral sex.

When the Pulse is wrapped around the penis, this essentially turns you into a vibrator! If your partner has a clitoris, there is the potential for many types of stimulation.

Partner-play with this toy is only limited by imagination.

Verdict

For men with erectile dysfunction, the Pulse Solo is easy to use and may provide excellent assistance in establishing and maintaining an erection and/or achieving orgasm.
